How to: Fluorescent Lamp Disposal

All fluorescent contain small amounts of mercury, and some lamps with magnetic ballasts contain small amounts of short-lived radioactive materials. Because of these materials, you should not throw burned out bulbs in the trash. Discover if there is a recycling program for them in your communities, which are increasingly common. Or dispose of them with other hazardous wastes such as batteries, solvents and paint at your community designated drop point or on a day when you can set these materials with your sidewalk garbage collection.
